The latest episode of the FX sci-fi drama, titled 'Beautiful Patient Zero,' delved into the origins of a significant outbreak, partially blaming an unlikely duo reminiscent of 'Laverne & Shirley.' Two laboratory workers, Clara and Mike, employed at billionaire Byron Forst's corporation, are central to the unfolding events.
Inspired by a desire for self-improvement and fueled by a chimpanzee mishap involving the drug 'The Beauty,' Mike steals two prototype injections. He administers them to himself and Clara, resulting in their transformation into idealized versions of themselves, portrayed by new actors.
Meanwhile, Ashton Kutcher's character, Byron Forst, navigates his own transformation into 'The Corporation.' His return home features an elaborate, sensual dance sequence choreographed to reflect his newfound power and the world bending to his will.
Director Michael Uppendahl emphasized grounding the characters' motivations, noting the inspiration for Clara and Mike was to create a 'Laverne & Shirley' in 2030. Despite warnings, Forst's company dedicates vast resources to perfecting the virus, leading to its widespread, sexually transmitted spread and uncontrollable levels.
