The upcoming special edition reissue of The Beatles' 1965 album Rubber Soul, set for release on October 2, will feature a newly unearthed recording of John Lennon's "Little Girl." This track was discovered in the band's vault, alongside an early recording related to the "Day Tripper"/"We Can Work It Out" single.
Giles Martin, who has overseen numerous Beatles archival projects, described "Little Girl" as a "little ditty" and a "valid sketch" of Lennon's songwriting process, noting it is not comparable to more developed songs like "Strawberry Fields" or "In My Life."
Unlike the extensive work done on "Now and Then," Martin explained that "Little Girl" was always intended to be included as a rarity among other outtakes and studio chatter on the reissue. The 1965 album Rubber Soul is recognized as a significant turning point for the band, showcasing more sophisticated songwriting and instrumentation influenced by their American tours.
The new Rubber Soul packages will include various formats, from single discs to super deluxe editions, featuring remixed audio, Dolby Atmos mixes, and high-resolution stereo audio. Preceding the main release are early versions of "Day Tripper," "Norwegian Wood," and "Michelle."
