Director Sam Mendes has officially announced the complete cast for his upcoming quartet of Beatles biopics, collectively titled 'The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event.' The films are slated for a simultaneous release in April 2028, offering what Sony film boss Tom Rothman has dubbed 'the first binge-able theatrical experience.' Each movie will focus on an individual member of the legendary band, aiming to provide a deeper understanding of their individual lives and collective impact.
The lead roles will be portrayed by Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Joining them are David Morrissey as McCartney's father, Jim, and Leanne Best as Lennon's Aunt Mimi. Bobby Schofield will portray Neil Aspinall, Daniel Hoffmann-Gill will be roadie Mal Evans, Arthur Darvill takes on press officer Derek Taylor, and Adam Pally plays manager Allen Klein. Harry Lloyd is cast as producer George Martin, and James Norton will embody manager Brian Epstein.
Mendes expressed his long-held desire to make films about The Beatles, feeling their story was too expansive for a single movie and too significant for a television series. This project is notable for being the first time The Beatles and their Apple Corps company have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film. The cast recently appeared together at CinemaCon 2025, reciting lyrics from "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and concluding with a coordinated bow.
