The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) - B.C. District Council is set to recognize prominent figures in the province's film and television sector. Michael McCormack will be honored with the Spotlight Award, acknowledging his achievements. Concurrently, Emmy-winning director Leo Lipovsky, known for his work on the Final Destination franchise, will receive the Industry Builder Award. These awards highlight significant contributions and emerging talent within the local industry.
Indie producer Brian Hamilton, founder of the Pacific Screenwriting Program, will also be celebrated with the Trailblazer Award. The ceremonies are part of the DGC - B.C. conference, scheduled to take place from January 24 to 25 in New Westminster, a suburb of Vancouver. The event aims to foster growth and recognize excellence in screenwriting, directing, producing, and acting.
Lipovsky expressed gratitude, stating that the DGC has been crucial to his development as a filmmaker and hopes the award encourages mentorship. Hamilton emphasized the importance of creating space for new voices and nurturing talent for global impact. Other notable B.C. talents, including Amanda Tapping and Sean Piller, are also slated to participate in the conference.
