The BBC is bringing Caleb Azumah Nelson's acclaimed debut novel, "Open Water," to the screen, with Toheeb Jimoh and Dujonna Gift in leading roles. Jimoh, an Emmy nominee for his work on Apple TV's "Ted Lasso," will play Marcus, a retail worker pursuing photography. Gift, who appeared in Disney's live-action "Snow White," is cast as Effie, a university dance student.
The series adaptation is helmed by Nelson himself, who wrote the screenplay and is directing the project. "Open Water" delves into an immediate and undeniable connection between Marcus and Effie, exploring the complexities of their burgeoning relationship.
Joining the principal cast are numerous emerging talents, including Rhianna Dorris and Lamar Waves. The production, a collaboration between Banijay-backed Mam Tor Productions and B-Side Productions, is set to air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
