BBC Studios has reinforced its commitment to Spain and Portugal with a significant operational expansion, including the launch of a dedicated Madrid hub. This strategic initiative aims to bolster its channels and streaming business across the Iberian Peninsula.
The newly formed Channels & Streaming Iberia team will drive the company's growing FAST, streaming, and advertising operations. David Urgell Pérez leads this team as country manager, focusing on commercial strategy and partner relationships. He is joined by Carlos Méndez as head of programming and Cristina Miquel as head of marketing.
This expansion targets Spain's strong demand for premium British content, noting its status as a fast-growing market in Southern Europe. BBC Studios currently operates six FAST channels in Spain, reaching over 16 million viewers through various partners, and sees significant opportunities in audience engagement and targeted advertising.
In Portugal, the strategy mirrors Spain's, focusing on making BBC content accessible through streaming and FAST services, with all content localized. BBC Studios also maintains a production presence in Spain through Brutal Media, further demonstrating its long-term investment and confidence in the Spanish market.
