BBC Radio 2 Host Tackles 135-Mile Trek for Children In Need

On November 10, 2025, BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox embarked on a remarkable challenge to raise funds for Children In Need. Cox is undertaking a grueling 135-mile trek across four counties - the equivalent of five marathons in five days.

Prior to this monumental undertaking, Cox revealed that she received a surprising boost of encouragement from Hollywood star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The film star, known for his roles in the Fast and Furious franchise and Jumanji, offered words of support to Cox, who presents Radio 2's Teatime Show. While Johnson declined Cox's request for a piggyback along the route, his advice resonated deeply with the presenter, who is determined to complete the challenge.

Dubbed "Sara's Great Northern Marathon Challenge," the presenter's journey will take her through the scenic moorlands and rolling hills of Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire. Carrying a Pudsey Bear backpack, Cox's trek began in Kielder Forest on November 10 and is set to conclude in Pudsey, Leeds, on November 14.

This ambitious endeavor marks Radio 2's longest-ever challenge in terms of duration, with fellow presenters offering their support and sharing messages from listeners throughout. Cox explained that the compelling nature of the Children In Need appeal made it impossible for her to decline the opportunity, as it is a "huge privilege wrapped up in some extreme physical exertion."
