Baywatch Reboot Surfs In With New Lead

Stephen Amell is set to star as Hobie Buchannon in the forthcoming Baywatch reboot, scheduled to premiere as part of the 2026-2027 television season. Executive producer Matt Nix praised Amell's ability to bring "heart, intensity, and that undeniable hero energy" to the role, highlighting his capacity for both action and emotional depth.

The reboot will reimagine Hobie, originally portrayed by Jeremy Jackson, as a grown man and a Baywatch captain. The narrative introduces Charlie, Hobie's previously unknown daughter, who seeks to follow in her father's legacy as a lifeguard. This personal dynamic adds a new layer to the familiar Baywatch setting.

Production is slated to begin this spring, with filming locations announced as Venice Beach in Los Angeles and the Fox Studio Lot in Century City. The new series aims to honor the original Baywatch's global success while introducing contemporary challenges and a fresh cast for today's audience.

The original Baywatch, which debuted in 1989, achieved immense popularity, airing in over 200 countries and captivating a billion viewers weekly at its peak. It launched numerous careers, including those of Pamela Anderson and Jason Momoa. It remains uncertain if original cast members will appear in the reboot, though Carmen Electra has expressed interest, with a caveat about working in the ocean.
