Veteran entertainment research executive Bart Story passed away on Tuesday in Los Angeles at the age of 63. His death resulted from complications stemming from metastatic urothelial carcinoma, as confirmed by a family representative. Story was a pivotal figure in the home video distribution industry and later led crucial research and development efforts for SAG-AFTRA and MarketCast.
For more than two decades, Story served as the senior director of market research at MarketCast. In this capacity, he provided essential guidance to the marketing divisions of numerous studios, networks, and streaming services. His work focused on enhancing audience engagement, testing creative concepts, and refining positioning strategies for entertainment products.
Before his tenure at MarketCast, Story directed research for SAG-AFTRA and played a key role at the Video Software Dealers Association, helping to modernize the video distribution market. He earned degrees from USC and Cal Poly Pomona and resided in Denver, Colorado. He is survived by his husband, Patrick Jager, and their son, Brandt.
