Set in Medellín during the early 1990s, "Barrio Triste" chronicles the lives of four teenagers who commandeer a television news camera. They use it to film their perilous and often violent escapades throughout the city's diverse neighborhoods.
What begins as a chronicle of bravado and transgression gradually exposes profound feelings of loneliness, alienation, and societal breakdown. The film's immersive visual style and uncompromising depiction of marginalized youth have garnered critical acclaim.
"Barrio Triste" made its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September and has since been featured at the Toronto and New York film festivals. Film Movement has acquired the North American theatrical distribution rights for this debut feature from Harmony Korine's company, EDGLRD.
