- The land is now part of Ramirez Canyon Park, undergoing development.
Barbra Streisand's former Malibu retreat, a sprawling 22-acre canyon property developed into a five-home compound, became a significant conservation gift. Between 1973 and 1983, Streisand and Jon Peters transformed the land, featuring meadows, gardens, and a creek, into a private sanctuary. After Streisand became the sole owner in 1983, she listed the estate for sale in the late 1980s. Despite price reductions from $15 million to $11.5 million, no buyer emerged. In 1993, Streisand donated the entire property to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, a move hailed as the most valuable land donation to the area. Original plans envisioned an environmental research center, but this did not fully materialize. The conservancy eventually rented the property for events and offered limited garden tours, which were later discontinued. A wildfire in 2018 destroyed one structure, but four others were saved. Today, the land is part of Ramirez Canyon Park and is currently under development, closed to public access. This ensures its protection from private development, marking a quieter, yet lasting, environmental legacy.
