A Bangladeshi feature film titled 'Jaya Aar Sharmin' has secured the highest honor at the 5th World Film Festival held in Kolkata. This cinematic achievement saw the film triumph over entries from six nations, including Iran, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, and India. The acclaimed film was notably produced amidst the challenges of the global pandemic.
Attending the concluding ceremony were lead actor and producer Jaya Ahsan, and cinematographer Joaher Musavvir Jyoti. Ahsan shared that 'Jaya Aar Sharmin' is an intimate and pure film, crafted with limited resources during a period of uncertainty. She emphasized its production as a pure artistic expression during lockdown.
The 5th World Film Festival showcased 10 feature films from six countries. 'Jaya Aar Sharmin' received the Bimal Roy Golden Award for Best Feature Film. Other accolades included the Bimal Roy Silver Award for 'River Tales' and a Jury Mention for 'Pantrum'.
In the documentary category, 'Mamun - In Praise of Shadows' from Bangladesh earned a Jury Mention. 'Dolls Don't Die - Putulnama' won Best Documentary, and 'River Still Flows' took the second-best honor. The short fiction segment saw 'The Tale of Katha' win Best Short Fiction, and 'Suddenly Rise' secure the second-best award.
