Netflix Revives Banana Fish with Authentic Voice Acting
13 Jul
Summary
- Banana Fish anime arrives on Netflix on August 12.
- New English and French dubs feature human voice actors.
- Previous AI-dubbed versions faced significant backlash.

Good news for Banana Fish fans: the 2018 anime adaptation is set to debut on Netflix for North America, France, and Ireland on August 12. This release is accompanied by newly announced English and French dubs, featuring professional human voice actors for the main characters. In English, Brandon McInnes and Jonathan Tanigaki will voice Ash Lynx and Eiji Okumura, respectively. French viewers will hear Sébastien Baulain and Grégory Laisné in the same roles.
This introduction of human voice talent marks a significant shift from last year's controversial AI-generated dubs that premiered on Prime Video. Those AI dubs, which also affected "No Game No Life Zero," were part of an unannounced beta program that drew widespread criticism from the anime community and voice actors alike. The poor quality of the AI voices and the ethical concerns raised led to a swift rollback of the program for English-language productions.
Following the program's discontinuation, Prime Video resumed using human performers for its anime dubs. With Banana Fish no longer available on Prime Video, Netflix now becomes the exclusive platform for viewers eager to experience the series, especially those deterred by the previous AI voice controversy.
