17 Apr
Summary
- Concert ticket resale above face value should be banned urgently.
- A Music Fan Association is proposed to protect concertgoers' rights.
- The new fans' charter includes 50 recommendations for industry improvement.

A government review has been urged to "without delay" ban the resale of concert tickets above face value. Commissioned by the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, the review also prompted calls for a Government and industry-backed Music Fan Association, similar to one established for football fans.
Lord Brennan, review chairman, stated that fans often feel neglected and ripped off due to prevalent sharp commercial practices. The new fans' charter, comprising 50 recommendations, aims to secure the long-term future of live music by ensuring fair treatment, improving disabled access, and enhancing venue safety.
The report highlighted negative perceptions of major online ticketing platforms, citing unfair treatment and high prices. A survey indicated that changing ticket prices caused stress and pressure for fans. Recommendations also include clear refund policies, a levy for grassroots venues, free earplugs, and publishing set times.
