Baildon Carnival Saved by Volunteer Surge
6 Dec
Summary
- Volunteer shortage threatened Baildon Carnival with cancellation.
- Six new volunteers secured the event's continuation.
- Carnival history dates back to the 1770s, rebooted in 2014.

Organizers of the Baildon Carnival have expressed "delight" following a successful volunteer recruitment drive that has saved the event from potential cancellation. The carnival's future was recently at "crisis point" due to insufficient numbers of people to help manage the increasingly popular event.
Facing the possibility of canceling the parade or the entire event in 2026, the Baildon Carnival Committee issued an urgent call for assistance last month. Deputy chair Ann Foster noted that the carnival's year-on-year growth, while positive, necessitates a larger volunteer base to be sustained.
Following the appeal, six new volunteers stepped forward, meeting the minimum requirement for the carnival to proceed. While relieved, the committee "still could do with more" to alleviate the workload and hopes to attract "new blood" to assist with physically demanding roles.
