Bad Bunny Stars in Caribbean Western Epic

Puerto Rican artist Residente is set to direct his first feature film, a production titled "Porto Rico." This ambitious project is described as an epic Caribbean western and historical drama. Bad Bunny has been cast in his inaugural leading film role for this highly anticipated movie.

The film's ensemble cast includes acclaimed actors Viggo Mortensen, Edward Norton, and Javier Bardem. Alejandro G. Iñárritu serves as an executive producer for "Porto Rico," adding significant weight to the production. The screenplay, developed by Residente and Alexander Dinelaris, reportedly draws from the life of José Maldonado Román, a 19th-century Puerto Rican revolutionary known as Águila Blanca.

Residente expressed his lifelong ambition to create a film about his homeland, aiming to present its complex and often controversial history with candor. "Porto Rico" is envisioned as a powerful affirmation of Puerto Rican identity and heritage, told with the intensity and honesty it warrants. The film has been in development since 2023.
