The seeds for the legendary 1995 Tamil film 'Baashha' were sown several years prior on the sets of the 1991 Hindi movie 'Hum.' Director Suresh Krissna revisited this concept with Rajinikanth during the making of 'Annamalai' in 1992. Following the release of 'Veera' in 1994, the duo decided to develop a new film. Rajinikanth proposed the title 'Baashha,' and Krissna began crafting the narrative around the idea.
The production raced against time, with the team completing the film in about five to six months for a 1995 Pongal release. 'Baashha' centers on Manickam, an auto-rickshaw driver forced to reveal his formidable past when his police officer brother is endangered by criminals.
Released during Pongal in 1995, 'Baashha' became a colossal success, reportedly playing in theaters for nearly 15 months. It remains an enduring cult favorite among fans of Rajinikanth and a landmark film in Tamil cinema.
