A new EP, "Wak'a," by siblings Chuquimamani-Condori and Joshua Chiquimia Crampton, explores Aymara oral histories, particularly the creation myth of the first sunrise. This release serves as a companion to their recent LPs, which commemorate their work in preserving Aymara lore. The EP's title, "Wak'a," means "split" or "parting" in English, reflecting its thematic focus on the separation of an ancient, unified world and the birth of a new, delineated one.
These themes are woven throughout the siblings' multidisciplinary art, including a 14-page booklet of the Aymara creation text and previous works like sound installations and lectures. Their music, under the band name Los Thuthanaka, is known for its genre-defying approach, merging disparate sounds such as Andean music, radio drops, and pop. The tracks on "Wak'a" are deeply integrated with their broader output, creating a continuous artistic transmission.
