The 23rd Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival has honored Igor Bezinović's film "Fiume o morte!" with the FIPRESCI Documentary Grand Prix. This prestigious award celebrates the best documentary of the past year, as chosen by the International Federation of Film Critics. The film critically examines the 1919 fascist occupation of Fiume, a historic event being reenacted 100 years later in a subversive, punk-inspired style by Bezinović and 300 residents.
The documentary is noted for its powerful dismantling of nationalist myths and its exposure of political performativity. "Fiume o morte!" has previously garnered significant recognition, including the European Film Award for Best European Documentary and multiple awards at the Rotterdam festival, such as the Tiger Award and the FIPRESCI Jury Prize. The festival itself, held from May 8 to May 17 across seven Polish cities and online until June 1, is a qualifier for the Academy Awards Best Documentary Feature category.
