Awarapan 2: A Sequel 19 Years in the Making

Awarapan 2 has been released, marking a continuation of the 2007 film's narrative 19 years later. Director Nitin Kakkar helms this sequel, with producer Vishesh Bhatt clarifying that Mohit Suri, the original director, did not return to allow the story to evolve naturally.

Bhatt explained that the decision for Suri's absence was organic, with Suri working on other projects and not actively developing a story for the sequel. Producer Bhatt had been conceptualizing Awarapan 2 for some time.

Emraan Hashmi's return as Shivam was a crucial element. Bhatt noted that embodying Shivam requires considerable actor energy due to the character's nuanced, silence-driven portrayal, especially after Hashmi finished work on 'Tiger 3'.

The film's musical landscape is also being expanded. While Mithoon, who worked on the original, returns, new collaborators like Amaal have also been brought in. This blend of experienced and new artists, including additions like Disha Patani, is intended to broaden the 'Awarapan' universe.

Producer Vishesh Bhatt made a deliberate point, via an Instagram post on the original film's 19th anniversary, to clarify that Awarapan 2 is not a spiritual successor but a direct continuation of the story. This clarification aimed to manage audience expectations.

The idea for this continuation began during the pandemic. Bhatt initially considered a spiritual successor but found it more compelling to directly engage with the character Shivam, wanting the sequel to resonate even with viewers unfamiliar with the first film.
