Avik Ganguly's "Black and White Affair" Blends Genres

Kolkata-based pianist and composer Avik Ganguly has unveiled his fifth independent instrumental album, titled "My Black and White Affair." Released on August 9, this eight-track collection signifies a new creative phase for the artist, characterized by the fusion of cinematic storytelling with diverse musical arrangements. The album ventures beyond conventional solo piano compositions, integrating elements of orchestral soundscapes, synth-pop textures, funk-inspired rhythms, and devotional themes, while keeping the piano at its core.

Ganguly, also known for his work with The ARC Project, is expanding his solo concert career. Following his inclusion in Fever's Candlelight Concerts in 2025, he has become a regular performer in intimate venues across Kolkata. He collaborated with session musicians Surjo Bhattacharjee on guitars, Aniket Dutta on drums, and Soumyajyoti Ghosh on flute for the album. "My Black and White Affair" is slated to be followed by a new solo concert series, "Tunes and Stories by Avik," expected to debut in Kolkata soon. This series will feature Avik's original cinematic compositions alongside piano arrangements of well-known songs from Bollywood, classical music, and English pop.

Throughout his career, Avik Ganguly continues to perform at various events, including corporate functions and private celebrations. He emphasizes his commitment to serving music through original compositions and live performances, valuing the creative freedom instrumental music provides for storytelling and genre exploration.
