According to recent reports, actor Austin Butler is in talks to play the role of James "Sonny" Crockett in an upcoming film adaptation of the 1980s NBC series "Miami Vice." The project, which is being directed by Joseph Kosinski, will also feature Michael B. Jordan as fellow Miami undercover detective Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs.
The script for the new "Miami Vice" film has been written by Eric Warren Singer and Dan Gilroy, with Kosinski and Dylan Clark serving as producers. Universal has scheduled the movie for a theatrical release on August 6, 2027, and shooting is set to begin next year.
The original "Miami Vice" series, which aired from 1984 to 1989, starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as the iconic detective duo. The new film adaptation aims to bring the classic crime drama to a new generation of audiences, with two of Hollywood's most talented actors taking on the lead roles.
