Aubrey Plaza & Michael Cera's Wild Vegas Marriage Plot
20 Apr
Summary
- Plaza and Cera planned a Vegas marriage and quick divorce.
- They drove across the country consuming edibles.
- Paranoia and Cera's fame caused them to abandon the plan.

Aubrey Plaza recently detailed a past plan with "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" co-star Michael Cera to impulsively marry in Las Vegas. Speaking on the "Smartless" podcast, Plaza explained they thought a quick marriage and divorce would be a humorous "bit." During an eastward drive, the pair consumed edibles and headed to Vegas with this intention. Plaza revealed they reached the courthouse but fled due to paranoia and Cera's significant fame.
Cera had previously alluded to this whimsical idea in a 2023 interview, recalling their near-spontaneous elopement. Plaza elaborated that the combination of being too intoxicated and Cera's extreme recognizability at the time, following projects like "Superbad," contributed to their decision to bail. Jason Bateman humorously suggested Cera's fame ultimately "saved" them from the marriage. Plaza and Cera continue to maintain a strong friendship, with Cera expressing admiration for Plaza's career achievements. Additionally, Plaza announced on the same podcast that she is expecting her first child with partner Christopher Abbott this fall.
