Susan Lawson-Reynolds will portray Assata Shakur, an influential American activist and author who spent years in exile in Cuba. Ebenezer Gyau will star as Fanuco Maceo, a local man unaware of the substantial bounty on Shakur's head. This fictional two-hander explores Shakur's life in exile on a Caribbean island.
The original production of Assata Taught Me was staged by The Gate Theatre in 2017. This upcoming revival marks the first time the play has been re-staged since its initial run, promising a fresh look at Shakur's complex legacy.
