AspireTV is embarking on a new chapter with the upcoming premiere of its first original scripted series, "Savannah State of Mind." This multi-camera sitcom is being developed by Bentley Kyle Evans, known for his work on "Martin" and "The Jamie Foxx Show." The series centers on seven first-year students as they experience the complexities of college life at a historically Black college.
Set on the fictional Oakwood Heights campus, the show aims to capture the essence of an HBCU's resurgence, supported by a significant anonymous donation. AspireTV's general manager, Angela Cannon, highlighted the series as an expansion into original scripted storytelling, emphasizing its potential for humor, heart, and authenticity.
Executive producer Bentley Kyle Evans expressed his excitement, stating that the series will authentically depict the brilliance, ambition, and transformation found within HBCUs. He stressed the importance of showcasing Black students in diverse roles, emphasizing layered human experiences over stereotypes. The series is currently in pre-production and is slated to debut later in 2026.
