The 19th Asian Film Awards will feature three special honorees: Zhang Ziyi, Liu Haoran, and Terrance Lau. Zhang Ziyi is set to receive the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award, recognizing her significant contributions to Chinese-language cinema and her impactful on-screen portrayals of women. Liu Haoran will be presented with the AFA Next Generation Award for his rise to prominence in blockbuster franchises and his recent diverse roles. Terrance Lau, noted for his work across stage, television, and film, will receive the AFA Rising Star Award, acknowledging his growing impact in multiple Asian markets.
This year's ceremony, organized by the Asian Film Awards Academy with support from Hong Kong's Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency and the Film Development Fund, will take place on March 15 at the Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon, Hong Kong. In response to last year's tragic fire, the academy has chosen a dignified and minimalist format, foregoing competitive categories and the red carpet. Alongside the awards, attendees can expect filmmaker conversations, masterclasses, and Asian cinema screenings.
