Starz is set to resurrect the Spartacus franchise with a new sequel series, Spartacus: House of Ashur, premiering in December 2025. The 10-part series unfolds in an alternate timeline where Nick E. Tarabay's character Ashur, a former slave, survived and took over the gladiatorial school.
In this reimagined narrative, Ashur is rewarded by the Republic for helping crush the slave rebellion and is given control of the gladiator school previously owned by Batiatus. However, Ashur's background as an ex-slave makes it challenging for him to integrate into the upper echelons of Roman society, as he is neither fully trusted nor accepted by the elite.
The series, created by Steven S. DeKnight, who previously helmed the original Spartacus franchise, promises a "thrilling, erotic, history-bending, roller-coaster experience" filled with palace intrigue and the signature Spartacus elements of sex, violence, and complex character dynamics. Alongside Tarabay's Ashur, the cast includes newcomer Tenika Davis as the fierce gladiatrix Achillia, as well as returning characters like Julius Caesar, played by Jackson Gallagher.
Spartacus: House of Ashur aims to offer both familiar and fresh perspectives, exploring how Ashur's survival and rise to power impact the events that unfolded in the previous Spartacus series. Fans of the franchise can look forward to a gripping and unexpected continuation of the saga when the series premieres on Starz in December 2025.
