Singer Ashe, born Ashlyn Wilson, is set to release her forthcoming album, The Girl of Your Dreams, on October 16. This project marks her return to music after a hiatus taken in 2022 to process the death of her brother in 2019 and the end of a difficult marriage in 2018. Now remarried to musician John Clark Canada, Ashe describes her current creative space as happy and "whimsical."
During her break, Ashe pursued acupuncture and therapy, which aided her healing journey. She discovered a newfound resilience and strength, noting, "I feel like the world gets a little scared when women do that." This empowered perspective deeply influenced her songwriting for the new album.
The lead single, "Stop the Wedding!," released in August, is described by Ashe as a more mature and liberated version of her earlier hit "Moral of the Story." It addresses the societal pressures that can lead women to stay in difficult situations, inspired by her own past experiences and a desire to help others avoid similar feelings of being trapped.
Ashe also clarified the meaning behind the album's title, "The Girl of Your Dreams." She explained it represents a "facade" or a "projection" of what others expect a woman to be. The album, she stated, is about shedding these external expectations to discover one's true self, independent of anyone else's desires or perceptions.
