Uncharted Entertainment is set to launch sales for the horror thriller "Ascendant" at the EFM. The film stars Richard Brake as a charismatic cult leader who demonstrates supposed mystic powers, including setting human sacrifices ablaze. Kate Lynn E. Newberry co-stars as a woman who goes undercover within the cult to search for her abducted sister.
Richard Brake is known for his roles in "Mayor of Kingstown" and "The Strangers" franchise, and his frequent collaborations with Rob Zombie. Newberry has appeared in "The Virginia Bitches" and "Frenzy Moon." Writer and director Phil Blattenberger described Brake's performance as terrifying and masterful.
Blattenberger, whose previous films include "Point Man," "Condor's List," and "Laws of Man," wrote the screenplay for "Ascendant" in Ukraine in 2025 amidst Russian air raids. He aimed to infuse the narrative with the palpable tension of that experience. The film also features impressive human burn stunts coordinated by Paul E. Short.
The cast includes Kat Conner Sterling, Chase Gutzmore, Corinne Britti, Paul de Havilland, Jacob Keohane, and Kristyna Kucirkova. Daniel Troyer served as both cinematographer and editor. Spiral Cabin Productions produced in association with Configuration8 and Rogue 4 Films, with Blattenberger, Troyer, Keohane, and Michael Alexander producing.
