A film enthusiast who started creating his own movie poster art for enjoyment has since gained international recognition. Paul Shipper's online sharing of designs led to opportunities to work on major Hollywood franchises. His portfolio includes artwork for blockbuster titles such as Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange, and multiple Star Wars films.
Shipper, who identifies as a fan of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, found his inspiration for illustration in franchises like Star Wars and Indiana Jones. He views movie poster art as a way to tell a story through a single, impactful image, likening it to a film trailer. His distinctive style has resonated with collectors and fans.
Now, Shipper is collaborating with Gareth Griffiths, founder of AMPjam Poster Convention, on a charity exhibition titled "AMPjam Presents: We've Been Framed." This event in Birmingham features original artworks from over 60 international artists, each inspired by films and television. The exhibition showcases unique interpretations of popular media, presented in unusual vintage or repurposed frames.
The exhibition, which runs throughout October, is free to enter, with donations encouraged for Edward's Trust, a West Midlands-based bereavement charity. Following the four-week run, all artworks will be auctioned online to raise further funds. Griffiths hopes the event will inspire aspiring artists and creatives.
