A digital art initiative called 'Being Online' has launched a global gallery featuring artworks by young individuals under 30 from 21 countries. The initiative aims to visually explore the experiences of growing up and connecting in a digital age. Anukriti, a 29-year-old artist from Delhi, had her artwork 'The Tree That Never Slept' selected as a top winner.
Her winning piece reflects her personal journey of overcoming severe harassment and trauma experienced in her youth. The artwork symbolizes how technology-facilitated gendered violence can spread rapidly. Anukriti's participation in 'Being Online' allowed her to share her story and advocate for better support systems for young people facing similar issues.
The 'Being Online' gallery was created by the Digital Transformations for Health Lab (DTH‑Lab) in collaboration with the Global Mental Health Action Network (GMHAN). The initiative highlights the importance of digital environments for health and well-being, aligning with WHO's work on digital determinants of health. Other award-winning artworks include 'Funny Faces' by Ada H from the United Kingdom and 'Captivity' by Eyob Tadesse from Ethiopia.
