As the 2025 awards season approaches, a panel of leading artisans has provided a behind-the-scenes look at their collaborative efforts on some of the year's most acclaimed films. Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw discussed her work with director Ryan Coogler on the supernatural thriller "Sinners," explaining how they aimed to create an immersive, textured world that authentically portrayed 1930s Mississippi and its diverse characters.
Songwriter EJAE, who voiced the singing role of Rumi in the record-breaking "KPop Demon Hunters," revealed how she drew from her own personal struggles as a former K-pop trainee to infuse the film's ballad "Golden" with raw emotion. Meanwhile, makeup and hair artist Stephanie Pasicov detailed her approach to aging actress Amanda Seyfried's character in "The Testament of Ann Lee," using subtle prosthetics to convey the character's traumatic experiences.
Other artisans, including editor Andy Jurgensen and production designer Ben Munro, shared insights into crafting the dynamic opening sequence of "One Battle After Another" and recreating the high-stakes world of Formula One racing, respectively. Across these diverse projects, a common theme emerged: the power of collaboration to elevate the creative vision and bring authenticity to the stories being told on screen.
