Ariana Grande Sues Hackers Over Stolen Music

Ariana Grande has initiated legal action this week against unnamed hackers for allegedly stealing and leaking her unreleased music, photos, and videos. This move follows a pattern of similar lawsuits from major artists, including BTS, Madonna, Megan Thee Stallion, and Ye, who have all employed legal strategies to combat the persistent issue of music leaks.

Grande's lawsuit claims repeated hacks since 2011, often targeting her producers and photographers to gain access to private content. Her legal team aims to identify and hold accountable the individuals responsible for these "unlawful and egregious" acts, which she argues harm her relationship with fans.

Other artists have expressed similar sentiments. Kelsea Ballerini sued in 2024, stating that leaks stripped her of the right to decide when her work is complete. Madonna described a 2015 album leak as "a form of terrorism" that damages artistic creation.

Veteran music attorney Tal Dickstein notes that such leaks violate artists' privacy and the vulnerable creation process. While finding hackers and recovering damages is challenging, legal filings can serve as a deterrent, sending a clear message against future unauthorized access and safeguarding the careful planning artists undertake.
