Apple TV+ Bags "Small Prophets" Worldwide

Apple TV+ has secured worldwide distribution rights for Mackenzie Crook's "Small Prophets," with a global launch set for October 7. The acclaimed series previously premiered on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two earlier this year, achieving the best 28-day launch ratings for a comedy on BBC Two since 2022. Written, created, and directed by Mackenzie Crook, who also appears in the show, "Small Prophets" stars Pearce Quigley as Michael Sleep.

Michael, an ordinary man grappling with the disappearance of his partner seven years prior, works at a DIY store and hopes for her return. His father, Brian (played by Michael Palin), introduces him to a potion recipe to create homunculi, magical beings that can foretell the future. Aided by a young co-worker, Kacey (Lauren Patel), Michael navigates his skepticism and the magical elements of the story, which are enhanced by animated sequences.

The series, set in suburban Manchester, has garnered critical praise, including a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the International Panorama award at Series Mania. It is noted for its gentle British sensibility, often drawing comparisons to "Ted Lasso" for its comforting tone. "Small Prophets" was produced by Crook's Treasure Trove Productions alongside Manchester-based Blue House Productions.
