Summary
- Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap refuses to make 'Gangs of Wasseypur 3'.
- Audiences still only know him for 'Wasseypur,' he stated.
- He cited the franchise's shadow for his film's failure.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has definitively stated he has no intention of producing a third part to his famed 'Gangs of Wasseypur' series. He describes the franchise as a significant burden that overshadows his broader directorial work. Kashyap explained that despite directing over 200 projects, his identity remains tied to the 2012 two-part film, with fans persistently inquiring about a sequel.
Kashyap clarified that his filmmaking is not driven by market competition but by a desire to create films and accept the outcomes. He indicated that the underperformance of his recent two-part comedy, 'Nishaanchi,' was impacted by the "shadow of Gangs of Wasseypur." Originally planned for streaming, 'Nishaanchi' was split into two theatrical releases, a strategy that proved unsuccessful.
The director mentioned he could have used a voiceover, similar to 'Gangs of Wasseypur,' to guide viewers through 'Nishaanchi,' but chose not to repeat creative choices. He noted that while the history of Bihar was less understood at the time of 'Wasseypur,' Uttar Pradesh, where 'Nishaanchi' is set in Kanpur, is more familiar territory. Kashyap is currently promoting his upcoming film, 'Kennedy.'
