Bollywood's 8-Hour Shift Debate: Sinha Weighs In
3 Mar
Summary
- Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha supports actors setting work hour boundaries.
- Rishi Kapoor and Sinha amicably resolved night shoot disagreements.
- Deepika Padukone's reported exit over work hours sparks debate.

Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has thrown his support behind the push for fixed working hours in Bollywood, a movement notably initiated by actor Deepika Padukone. Sinha emphasized that actors should have the autonomy to define their daily work schedules, stating that production teams can then decide whether to align with these preferences.
Recounting an experience from the filming of Mulk in 2018, Sinha detailed how he and the late actor Rishi Kapoor reached a mutual understanding regarding night shoots. Kapoor's expressed reservations about working late were addressed through negotiation, resulting in a compromise that ensured smooth production and mutual respect.
While Sinha has not directly worked with Padukone and avoids industry gossip, he noted that colleagues describe her as a pleasure to collaborate with. He suggested that disagreements over working hours are common professional negotiations, akin to household matters that can be resolved privately.
The debate gained significant attention following reports of Deepika Padukone's departure from director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's project, Spirit, reportedly due to creative differences and her demand for an eight-hour workday. Triptii Dimri subsequently took over the role.
