Banderas, who is set to receive the festival's prestigious Stella della Mole Award during the opening ceremony on November 29, will also present a special screening of Pedro Almodóvar's 2019 drama "Pain and Glory."
Banderas, who starred as Almodóvar's alter-ego in "Pain and Glory," earned the best actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance and received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. The festival is celebrating Banderas' longstanding collaboration with Almodóvar, which includes other acclaimed films such as "Labyrinth of Passion," "Matador," and "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown."
In addition to his work with Almodóvar, Banderas has also made a name for himself in Hollywood, starring in films like "Philadelphia," "Interview With the Vampire," and "Evita." The festival's artistic director, Giulio Base, praised Banderas as "a performer of dizzying depth and, at the same time, a global sex symbol of his generation."
