Anton Du Beke's Sussex Past: Memoir & Dance Show

Anton Du Beke, a well-known figure from Strictly Come Dancing, has expressed a profound connection to Sussex. This relationship is brought to the forefront as he prepares for the release of his debut memoir and his accompanying show, 'Steps in Time'.

The dancer, originally from Kent, will perform his show at the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne on 28 October. This performance will feature a Q&A session delving into his life before Strictly Come Dancing.

Du Beke credited his early career development to his influential dance teachers, Bill and Sylvia Mitchell, from Rottingdean, East Sussex. He recalled having weekly lessons with them for approximately 20 years in Hove, solidifying his long-standing association with the county.

Reflecting on his path to success, Du Beke revealed that he self-funded his amateur dancing career through a variety of jobs. These included roles such as a baker for five years, a second-hand car salesman, and a gas bottle delivery person.

Now a judge on Strictly Come Dancing, Du Beke emphasizes his 16 years of experience as a professional dancer on the show as a key strength. He has witnessed the programme's evolution firsthand, from simple tail-suit performances to elaborate productions incorporating augmented reality.

Furthermore, Du Beke is anticipating the release of his festive single, 'Dance My Way To Christmas', on 6 November, a duet with singer Lance Ellington. This follows his "wall-to-wall Christmas" show, scheduled to appear at the Brighton Centre on 22 December. These festive offerings are inspired by classic Christmas specials from his childhood.
