Veteran actor Anthony Hopkins, an 88-year-old with numerous accolades including two Academy Awards, has returned to his Welsh roots to film a new project. For over five decades, Hopkins has been a resident of the United States, becoming a citizen in April 2000. However, he retains a profound connection to his Welsh upbringing, frequently expressing a desire to return.
His latest endeavor is a film titled "A Visit To Grandpa's," focusing on the life and work of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Hopkins shared his enthusiasm, noting the project allows him to "return to my Welsh roots." He was recently seen in the Welsh countryside reciting Thomas's poetry. This marks a significant return to the area where he grew up in Port Talbot.
Hopkins has maintained ties to his hometown, with a surprise visit to a fish and chips shop in Port Talbot in January 2025 delighting locals. He previously bought property in Malibu in 2001, which he sold in 2020, before his Pacific Palisades home was lost in wildfires in January 2025. Filming for the Dylan Thomas movie commenced in Wales in March.
