4 Oct
Summary
- Anne Hathaway achieved three No. 1 box office openings in 2026.
- Her film 'Verity' earned $33 million on its opening weekend.
- This marks a significant return for Hathaway after a decade.
Actress Anne Hathaway has achieved a remarkable box office milestone in 2026, securing leading roles in three films that debuted at No. 1. This accomplishment is particularly noteworthy as it follows a near decade-long absence from major studio productions.
Her latest film, "Verity," based on a Colleen Hoover novel, opened this weekend to an estimated $33 million, topping the charts. This success builds on her earlier 2026 hits: a revival of her role in "The Devil Wears Prada 2" in May and a leading part in Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" in July.
Film analysts note that Hathaway's consistent box office draw demonstrates audience trust in her name. Her busy 2026 slate, which also included "Mother Mary," "The End of Oak Street," and "The Witches," proves audiences are not tired of her presence. This year's success highlights the demand for female-led projects, though experts caution that widespread female box office dominance, akin to past eras, has not yet returned.
Hathaway herself expressed surprise at her packed release schedule, joking about audiences potentially getting tired of her face. However, with her films performing so strongly, it's clear her star power remains potent, even as she prepares for maternity leave.
