A recent police report has shed new light on the passing of celebrity chef Anne Burrell, who died in June 2025 at the age of 55. The New York Police Department report, obtained recently, details the discovery of a "suicidal note" and journal entries within Burrell's Brooklyn residence.
Her husband, Stuart Claxton, found Burrell unresponsive on their bathroom floor early on June 17, 2025, surrounded by numerous over-the-counter pills. He stated he had not observed any prior signs or discussions of suicidal ideation from her. Emergency services pronounced her deceased at the scene.
An official investigation by the New York City Medical Examiner five weeks later concluded her death was a suicide. The cause was determined to be acute intoxication from a combination of antihistamines, alcohol, and amphetamines, substances found in over-the-counter medications and a prescription drug.
Burrell, a celebrated chef trained in Italy, gained widespread recognition for her extensive tenure as a mentor on Food Network's "Worst Cooks in America" for 27 seasons. Her contributions to the culinary world and television were acknowledged by Food Network representatives following her death.
