Ann Ming was honored at the Royal Television Society North East and Borders TV Awards for her pivotal role in a drama that depicted her pursuit of justice. The ITV production, "I Fought the Law," dramatized Ming's successful campaign to overturn the double jeopardy law. This legal change enabled the re-prosecution of Billy Dunlop, who murdered her daughter Julie Hogg in 1989.
Dunlop was initially acquitted but later admitted guilt. Ming's persistent campaigning led to Dunlop's 2006 re-trial, where he confessed to murder and received a life sentence. "I Fought the Law" also received the Best Drama award at the ceremony held in Gateshead. Sheridan Smith, who portrayed Ming, could not attend but praised Ming as her "absolute hero."
