Rock Legend Angry Anderson Dies at 79

Gary Anderson, the charismatic frontman of rock band Rose Tattoo, widely known as Angry Anderson, has died at the age of 79. Anderson's solo track 'Suddenly' achieved global fame after it was prominently featured in a 1988 episode of the Australian soap opera Neighbours, during the wedding of characters Scott and Charlene. The episode captivated an audience of 20 million viewers in the UK alone.

Anderson, born in Melbourne in 1947, initially gained recognition on Australia's rock scene with Rose Tattoo, releasing their debut album in 1978. Following the band's split, he embarked on a solo career, releasing 'Suddenly' in 1987. The song's success, amplified by its Neighbours placement, propelled it to the top three charts in both the UK and Australia.

Prior to his passing, Anderson experienced a cardiac arrest while on Rose Tattoo's farewell tour across Europe last month. He received hospital treatment before returning to Australia, leading to the cancellation of nine live performances. A joint statement from his family and bandmates remembered him as a "devoted father, and much-loved bandmate," whose absence will be profoundly missed.

Beyond his music career, Anderson was recognized for his community service and youth advocacy, receiving a Member of the Order of Australia in 1993. He also took on acting roles, including Herod in an Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar.
