Angel Studios: Audience Veto Power in Entertainment
29 Oct
Summary
- Members can veto projects lacking a 70/100 approval score.
- Strict standards ban on-screen sex, nudity, and some profanity.
- Company aims to reconnect with values-based family audiences.
Angel Studios has unveiled sweeping new content standards, dubbed 'The Angel Promise,' empowering its 3 million paying members with veto power over proposed projects. These members can reject any film or show failing to achieve a minimum score of 70 out of 100.
This initiative establishes strict content guidelines, including a ban on on-screen nudity, sex, and the misuse of God's name. Profanity, specifically the F-word, is also prohibited, marking a significant departure from traditional Hollywood practices.
The studio aims to reconnect with family audiences who, according to co-founder Jeff Harmon, feel alienated by current industry trends. Harmon emphasized the goal of providing trustworthy entertainment without objectionable material.
In addition to content approval and standards, Angel Studios is enhancing parental controls within its app. These features will allow parents to tailor viewing options and establish age-appropriate ratings with descriptive content information.
Angel Studios has already paid out nearly $300 million to filmmakers, with over 100 films available for member review. Prominent past productions include "David" and "The King of Kings."
