Hitmaker Andra Day Accuses Manager of Stealing Over $1 Million

In a dramatic turn of events, Grammy-nominated singer Andra Day and her long-time manager Jeff Evans are engaged in a heated legal battle over royalty payments. According to the lawsuits filed, the two have been at odds over a series of financial disputes that have now escalated to the courtroom.

Evans was the first to sue, claiming that Day has refused to honor their contract which entitles him to a 40% royalty on her publishing and a 20% commission on other profits. He alleges that Day has withheld this money since 2024 and that he is owed a cut of her $1.5 million in publishing advances from Kobalt as well as backend payments from her acting role in the Netflix movie The Deliverance.

However, Day tells a very different story in her own lawsuit filed against Evans. She claims that the original contract giving Evans 40% of her royalties was "exploitative" and that both that agreement and the 20% commission deal expired in 2023. Day accuses Evans of "stealing" from her, alleging that he misappropriated a $600,000 recording fund from her label, Warner Records, and siphoned over $1 million worth of royalties on her compositions and master recordings.

Day's lawsuit states that as of this past spring, Evans had stolen at least $1.6 million from her, leaving her facing eviction and unable to pay her debts or tour. She claims a full investigation is needed to uncover the "web of deceit" woven by her former manager.
