Melbourne's punk sensations, Amyl and the Sniffers, are slated to headline the 2027 Golden Hour festival at Sydney's Bondi Beach on Thursday, March 4. This performance is billed as the band's most significant Australian show to date. The event will exclusively feature artists with female frontpersons, including special guests Malyangapa and Barkindji rapper BARKAA, and Western Sydney post-punk group Xiao Xiao.
This Bondi date is part of a four-show Australian homecoming tour, also including stops in Brisbane, Fremantle, and St Kilda. The Golden Hour series revitalized major live music at Bondi in its 2026 inaugural event. For the 2027 shows, the band has committed to donating ticket proceeds to various charities, with the Sydney donation honoring the community's response to the recent Bondi attack.
The homecoming follows a highly successful international run for Amyl and the Sniffers. Their 2024 album, 'Cartoon Darkness,' produced by Nick Launay, achieved critical acclaim, reaching No. 2 on the ARIA Charts and marking their first entry on the Billboard 200. The album also garnered a Grammy nomination for "U Should Not Be Doing That" in the best rock performance category for the 2026 ceremony, alongside a BRIT Award nomination and performances at major festivals like Glastonbury and Coachella. In 2025, the band dominated the ARIA Awards, securing four accolades including album of the year.
Amyl and the Sniffers, fronted by vocalist Amy Taylor, first gained prominence with their 2019 self-titled debut, which won an ARIA Award for best rock album. They have since become a leading force in Australian rock exports. The band has also recently hinted at a new project: a film exploring country-music interpretations of their songs.
