Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has revealed she believes she returned to the show too soon after her stage three breast cancer diagnosis. The Welsh dancer, 35, received the devastating news in May 2023, at the age of 32. Her challenging treatment journey involved chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and a mastectomy.
Dowden made her comeback to Strictly in the 2025 series, partnered with Thomas Skinner. However, their partnership was short-lived, becoming the first pair to be eliminated. Shortly after her departure from the competition, Dowden underwent a second preventative mastectomy in November 2025.
Reflecting on her return, nearly six months after her exit, Dowden confessed that her desire to resume her normal life may have influenced her decision. She explained that recovering from chemotherapy is a long process, and it's difficult to gauge when one is truly back to their former self.
This experience has led Dowden to acknowledge the permanent changes she has undergone, stating she is no longer the same person she was. She also discussed her aspirations for motherhood. Married to dancer Ben Jones since 2022, her cancer treatment induced an early menopause. While the couple has preserved five embryos, the prospect of motherhood remains uncertain.
