Tan Siyou's debut feature, Amoeba, has been acquired by Dekanalog for distribution across North America. The film, which garnered attention at the Toronto International Film Festival, tells the story of a 16-year-old high school dropout in Singapore.
Inspired by real-life anecdotes, Amoeba follows the protagonist as she rejoins her former elite all-girls school. Her defiance against strict teachers forms a bond with three other students, leading them to form a gang in a country known for its strict regulations.
The film, a co-production involving companies from Singapore, the Netherlands, France, Spain, and South Korea, has accumulated several accolades. These include awards at the Pingyao Film Festival, Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival, and QCinema.
Dekanalog intends to release Amoeba in US theaters in Spring 2027, with subsequent VOD and Blu-Ray availability. A Canadian theatrical release is also planned, aiming to engage Asian-American and young cinephile audiences.
