Veteran actor Amit Behl is celebrating the selection of his film, "September 21," for screening at the Marché du Film at the 79th Cannes Film Festival in 2026. The film delves into the complexities of Alzheimer's disease and the experiences of those providing care.
Behl was captivated by the story and the passion of its 21-year-old director, Karen Kshiti Suvarna. He described how Suvarna's virtual narration convinced him of the film's poignant exploration of Alzheimer's patients' unawareness and the demanding, emotional journey of their caretakers.
Despite not meeting until the shoot, Behl noted Suvarna's remarkable clarity and preparedness, which facilitated a smooth production. He also highlighted the strong chemistry with co-star Pravin Singh Sisodia, with whom he previously worked on the show 'Shanti'.
The film's screening at Cannes is seen as a significant honor, with director Suvarna also invited to speak on a panel. Behl believes the international audience, particularly in regions with higher Alzheimer's prevalence, will connect with the film's sensitive and entertaining approach.
"September 21" is scheduled for a pan-India release on May 22, 2026. Behl emphasized that the film is not solely depressing, incorporating lighter moments and a notable track by Kailash Kher, aiming to sensitize audiences in an engaging manner.
