Filmmaker Matthew Michael Carnahan, acclaimed for his directorial debut 'Mosul', is set to helm 'The Gatekeeper' for Amazon MGM Studios. This project is currently in development, with Di Bonaventura Pictures also attached. The film draws inspiration from James Byrne's bestselling novel, 'Deadlock'.
Adapted by Oscar-winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland, the story centers on Desmond "Dez" Aloysius Limerick, a uniquely skilled former operative. A chance encounter leads Dez to uncover a far-reaching conspiracy, compelling him to confront dangerous forces determined to conceal their secrets.
While Dez Limerick was first introduced in Byrne's novel 'The Gatekeeper', the film primarily adapts 'Deadlock', the second book in the series. Helgeland, known for 'L.A. Confidential' and 'Mystic River', brings his considerable talent to this adaptation, promising a compelling cinematic experience.
Di Bonaventura Pictures and Pouya Shahbazian are producing 'The Gatekeeper'. Carnahan's previous credits include writing 'World War Z' and 'Deepwater Horizon', while Helgeland's extensive writing and directing portfolio features 'A Knight's Tale' and '42'.
